The Baal Shem Tov taught: "In every experience, in everything that we see or hear, we can find a teaching that will better enable us to fulfill our life's purpose". In the spirit of our Chassidic Masters, I try to delve a little deeper into science, current affairs, human relations and everyday events and to show how, when viewed through the prism of Torah and Chassidus, they add meaning to our lives. I invite you to comment on, argue with or broaden the themes discussed here.

Acceptance
We see from this tragic event that nature makes no distinction between man beast or any living thing. The only barriers to acceptance are the limitations we place on ourselves. Jews find it difficult to agree on many things and often these barriers are political, personal or any other "predjudice". How can we learn from this event to be able to put aside the many differences that separate us and do as the mighty waves, make no distinctions when the events of importance arise.
Actually, contrary to what Leonard Fine says, the Tsunami did in fact distinguish between man and beast! Apparantly very few animals were injured or killed even in the flooded national parks. They sensed that danger was coming and moved to higher ground.
There must be something to learn from that!
Maybe that we humans should not be so haughty to think that we are the most advanced of the species and therefore own the world. There are certain things that make animals greater than us, and we should always know our place.
Isn't that why man was created on the afternoon of the sixth day -- after the animals?
Dear Rabbi Milecki ,
Congratulations, and best of luck with the new blogger forum.
I thought the following might offer insight to the teaching of our ability both to give and to receive.
"Acceptance of Israeli Aid "
Is not the ability to receive just as important as the ability to give?
Recent news headlines :
" Sri Lanka shuns Israel army aid "- Washington Times 30Dec
'Sri Lanka rejects Israel rescuers" BBC News 29Dec
"Israel Aid Mission returns unneeded from Sri Lanka and Thailand ,as local authorities said that their assistance was not required. " Israel Daily News Magazine -30Dec
On closer examination , Israel was one of the first countries to send aid to Sri Lanka., Food, blankets, tents, medicines ,generators, a medical and rescue and recovery team have been sent .
The jewish community have raised concerns as to the news media not having highlighted Israel's benevolence .
What does the Kabalah say about giving and receiving?
Dear Rabbi
Please would you address the issue of the Chosen People (again). It is such a problematic issue for so many of us. I would like to read a comrehensive piece including references to soul groups. (There is some excellent work being done in the field of Family Constelation Therapy that deals with healing Soul/Family groups. Much is being done to address the impact of the holocaust on the next generations of the victims and perpetrators families). Please include references to the soul groups of the nations of the world and their sources.
Thanks for the great article on women !
