Rabbi Benzion Milecki
Wow, we have had an exciting couple of weeks at South Head, so now it's time to express gratitude to those who contributed to our hugely successful events.
"Shabbat HaGadol comes early to South Head" left everyone inspired and upbeat. For this we thank our speakers - Rabbis Goldman, Boteach and Kenig - their messages were inspirational. Equally important, we thank our Cultural Committee comprising Gael Bachman, Bernice Charif, Les Kraus, Gary Lavan and Marianne Stern with backup from our admin and office staff for a really successful Shabbat lunch and Seuda Shlishit. They really put a lot of effort into the event and it produced huge "nachas" dividends. Thank you.
Thanks also to the Cultural Committee and others at South Head for a really enjoyable evening last night at the theatre. "From Door to Door" was a fantastic play with lots of humour and with both a Jewish and universal message. The script was brilliant, the acting superb. It was a bonus that the a number of key actors and producers were from our own shule - a great vote of appreciation to Jodi Kofsky and to Maxine Cohen. If you haven't yet seen the play, you should really make the effort. You won't be disappointed. It continues at the Seymour Theatre for another two weeks. Our children too had a great time on Purim with two events expertly co-ordinated by Shmuli and Dina Kraus. A big Yasher Koach to them both. The kids had a really great time as you can see from the photos below. For a Photo Album of our kids' events click here.
Finally, the Rebbetzen hosted a Purim party for some of the more senior members of the shule (that's why I was invited...) It was a great opportunity to meet old friends, have a nosh, and listen to a Purim message. So our dear Rebbetzen - a big Yasher Koach to you and our kids. See the photos below and our Photo Album of Purim at the Rabbis.
With all of this happening, I have been delegating quite a lot to my PA, Helen Meyer Franklin, who has acquitted herself admirably. Thank you Helen. Thanks also to all our office staff for all their constant support - to Brian Rosmairin, our new Chief Operations Officer, to Karen Fried, Jennifer Hermann and to Reuven, Tony and Rosa. And of course to Assistant Rabbi Dovid Seban for filling the gaps when I am indisposed, and to Chazan Yehoshua and Choir, especially for his beautiful Chazonus and for arranging the sound at our previous function in honour of the Rebbetzen's Bobbe. Without our professional team, we would not be able to achieve everything that we do. --------------------- Pesach Appeal - Simchat Yom Tov - Maot Chitim
Each year at this time we ask you to contribute to our Ma'ot Chitim fund for families in need and each year you respond warmly and generously.
Thank you for your continued support which means that dozens of families can be assisted with large amounts of vegetables & fruit, eggs, poultry, meat and Pesach-related groceries. It also allows us to provide interest-free loans to families to help them through temporary crises.
On behalf of all those who received assistance we thank you for your support. We are personally so very proud of our community. We are confident of the continued generosity and warm-heartedness that has become a hallmark of our Kehilla.
During the festive season it is customary to give gifts to friends and family. In the past, rather than giving gifts, a number of people made donations to our Simchas Yom Tov fund in the name of a friend or relative. This year we will be sending them a beautiful card saying that a donation to a family in need has been made in their honour. Many people have called us to say how heartened they were by this gesture and that it meant far more to them to know that less fortunate people were being assisted rather than receiving a gift for themselves.
We pray that Hashem rewards all those who contribute to this important cause, measure for measure, by giving you parnassah and wealth, and ensuring that neither you nor any of your loved ones are ever in need.

In view of the unstable state of the entire world at this time, I urge everyone to recite the following prayers, which according to the Lubavitcher Rebbe, Rabbi Menachem Mendel Schneerson, of blessed memory, have the ability to steady a shaky world
At the beginning of the day, the following should be recited:
Behold I accept upon myself the positive commandment, "You shall love your neighbour as yourself."
One should say these next verses after one's prayers every day. Or if, for some reason one doesn't pray, then at least these verses should be recited:
Do not fear sudden terror, nor the destruction of the wicked when it comes. Contrive a scheme, but it will be foiled; conspire a plot, but it will not materialize, for G-d is with us. To your old age I am [with you]; to your hoary years I will sustain you; I have made you, and I will carry you; I will sustain you and deliver you. Indeed, the righteous will extol Your Name; the upright will dwell securely in Your presence.
