From Auschwitz to Israel - A Personal Journey
|
|
Dear <~~First~~>,
Each year members of our community participate in the March of the Living. Originally organized for youth, in recent years it has been extended to adults.
Although most who participate gain enormously from the experience, and for more than a few it is a life-changing experience, it has a unique impact on survivors and their families. Indeed in recent years a number of congregants have taken their families as they have returned to Auschwitz - and from there to the bright beacon of Jewish life which is Israel.
This year our friend and congregant, and child of Holocaust survivors,Rolly Nagel made the trip with his wife Margaret. I have invited Rollyto share his experiences with us this evening during the service.
Please join us as Rolly delivers what is sure to be an inspiring andmoving talk: From Auschwitz to Israel - A Personal Journey
I would also like to remind congregants that South Head Speakers'Forum will be hosting Dudi Raisch on Tuesday week, June 3rd. Dudi is aremarkable man with an inspiring story to tell. Please join us as hedescribes the story of an Israeli community that with enduring faithhas succeeded against seemingly impossible odds. This event iscosponsored by South Head and JNF and supported by the State ZionistCouncil.
For catering purposes please RSVP no later than next Friday, 30 May byclicking here.
I write these lines on Lag B'Omer, the Yahrzeit of the Holy Rabbi andgreat Kabbalist Rabban Shimon bar Yochai. The Talmud tells us that themerit of Rabbi Shimon is so great that even if the world is deservingof destruction, Rabbi Shimon would save it. On one occasion, manyyears ago, when I was facing a seemingly insurmountable problem Iwrote to the Lubavitcher Rebbe and asked his blessing. It was aroundLag B'Omer and the Rebbe's response was that I should not worrybecause "Gadol Zechut Rabbi Shimon" - the merit of Rabbi Shimon isgreat. And so indeed it was.
In the merit of Rabbi Shimon, may Hashem grant each and everyone ofyou the fulfillment of your all hearts' desires for good and blessedthings.
On behalf of Rebbetzen Henya and all of us at South Head I wish you all Shabbat Shalom.
Rabbi Benzion Milecki OAM

Sayings of a Jewish Buddhist
- If there is no self, whose arthritis is this?
- Zen is not easy. It takes effort to attain nothingness. And then what do you have? Bupkis.
- The Tao does not speak. The Tao does not blame. The Tao does not take sides. The Tao has no expectations. The Tao demands nothing of others. The Tao is not Jewish.
- Breathe in. Breathe out. Breathe in. Breathe out. Forget this, and attaining Enlightenment will be the least of your problems.
- Be aware of your body. Be aware of your perceptions. Keep in mind that not every physical sensation is a symptom of a terminal illness.
- Accept misfortune as a blessing. Do not wish for perfect health, or a life without problems. What would you talk about?
- The journey of a thousand miles begins with a single Oy.
- Drink tea and nourish life; with the first sip, joy; with the second sip, satisfaction; with the third sip, peace; with the fourth, a Danish.
