Rabbi's Message

Purim African Style

Dear <~~First~~>,

Although there are different mitzvot associated with Purim, such as hearing the reading of the Megillah in public, giving Tzeddakah to the poor(Matanot L'Evyonim) and gifts to one's friends (Mishloach Manot) - a central, and often most overlooked mitzvah is Seudat Purim. Celebrated in a fun and happy way, this meal presents an opportunity to joyously thank G-d for his constant miracles.

Please come dressed in your Purim best as join us for this festive meal to take place on Sunday afternoon, 5.30pm. Themed, Out of Africa, it will be a fun opportunity to beat your bongo drum together with the famous Drum Cafe and partake of an African styled BBQ and sit down dinner.

We have done our best to keep costs down, so please call Karen first thing Monday and book your place at this exciting function.

Speaking of Africa, for those congregants who are planning to be in South Africa for the World Cup later this year, we have received important information about Kashrut and other considerations. Click here for the letter I received from Mr Robert Sussman, President of the SA Kashrut Authority.

Next Week: Service Time changes

Please note that from next Friday night - Feb 19th - Mincha commences at 6.15pm. The earliest time to light Shabbat candles is 6.26pm. There will not be a l'chaim next week, but we will break for ten minutes after Mincha. Those women who are attending the dinner, and any others who wish to, can then light candles in the Herbert Hall. I would encourage those women who wish to light at home to do so after 6.26 and then come to shule.

Avraham Fried

A reminder to everyone who wishes to attend next Friday night's dinner with internationally renowned singer Avraham Fried to contact the office as soon as possible.

With best wishes for a Good Shabbos,

On behalf of the Rebbetzen and all of us at South Head

Friday the Rabbi Laughed!

When Duty Calls

Moishe, the Jewish astronaut, was asked why he was packing a tie with his spacesuit.

He replied, "My mother said that when I do a spacewalk I should look nice."

Later on, during the flight, Moishe became frantic and radioed mission control. "I must make an emergency landing!"

"Why?"

"My wife called and she wants to be picked up from the hairdresser."
