An Unusual Privilege Rabbi Benzion Milecki OAM - May 2009
Although we hear about casualties of war, it is not often that we have to confront them. It is not only those who offer the ultimate sacrifice in defence of their homeland, but those whose severe injuries accompany them throughout their lives.
In conjunction with my friend and colleague, Rabbi Yakov Barber of Melbourne's South Caulfield Synagogue, we have decided to add fun, joy and laughter to those whose lives have been significantly altered by loss of limb, paralysis and other terrible ailments.
From Tuesday June 30th until Thursday July 9th, we are bringing a group of 10 disabled Israeli soldiers for nine days vacation to Australia, the first three of which will be in Sydney.
Many Israelis, after their three years of service, travel the Far East, including Australia, an opportunity that these heroes of our people have missed.
We are hopeful that this trip - which will be jam-packed with activity, will do something to redress this loss.
While much of the costs have been covered by generous benefactors, we still need to raise an additional $10,000.
You can have a share in the privilege of participating in this wonderful mitzvah. Please contact Helen on 9371 7300 ext 4 or secretary@southhead.org. Funds given will be used exclusively for the purpose of entertaining and hosting the soldiers.
