Rabbi Benzion Milecki - Shabbat Nitzavim Vayelech
Together with your seat cards this year, you will be receiving, as a special Rosh HaShana gift from the Rebbetzen and myself, some very special bookmarks. The bookmarks were conceptualised by our son Levi and prepared for print by Lauren Briggs.I thank them both for always being there for us.
Based on the teachings of the Lubavitcher Rebbe, these bookmarks contain the affirmations that I have been urging congregants to recite in view of the precarious situation that the world is in at the present time. Each morning, at the beginning of the day, one should affirm one's acceptance of neighbourly love and respect. "I hereby accept upon myself the positive commandment of 'You shall love your neighbour as you love yourself". This affirmation originated with the kabbalist, Rabbi Isaac Luria of Safed (the Holy Ari) in the sixteenth century.
After praying, or at least once a day, one should also recite verses which affirm our complete confidence in G-d and His Salvation.
I ask that you treat these bookmarks with the respect that holy items deserve containing as they do verses of our Torah and G-d's Name.
May we merit to be signed and sealed for a good and sweet year, a year full of love, respect and confidence - qualities that have the ability to not only protect us, but to guide us towards both personal, national and global redemption.
With love and G-d's blessing always, Rabbi Benzion Milecki P.S. If you are not a member of our shule, but would like to receive the bookmarks, please email Helen on secretary@southhead.org. | |

In view of the unstable state of the entire world at this time, I urge everyone to recite the following prayers, which according to the Lubavitcher Rebbe, Rabbi Menachem Mendel Schneerson, of blessed memory, have the ability to steady a shaky world
At the beginning of the day, the following should be recited:
Behold I accept upon myself the positive commandment, "You shall love your neighbour as yourself."
One should say these next verses after one's prayers every day. Or if, for some reason one doesn't pray, then at least these verses should be recited:
Do not fear sudden terror, nor the destruction of the wicked when it comes. Contrive a scheme, but it will be foiled; conspire a plot, but it will not materialize, for G-d is with us. To your old age I am [with you]; to your hoary years I will sustain you; I have made you, and I will carry you; I will sustain you and deliver you. Indeed, the righteous will extol Your Name; the upright will dwell securely in Your presence.
